About Julia Kovacs
Julia A. Kovacs, MD attended Arizona State University for her undergraduate education where she studied Medical Technology. She then went on to University of Arizona for medical school. In 1995, Dr. Kovacs moved to Houston, Texas to do her Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at Baylor College of Medicine. After completing her residency in 1998 Dr. Kovacs joined Southampton Medical Group. During that time, she developed her skills in preventive medicine and the management of other chronic conditions such and diabetes, thyroid disease, HIV and hypertension. She also volunteered as the Medical director of the Women's Health Clinic at the Montrose Clinic and was on the board of the Lesbian Health Initiative. Dr. Kovacs worked in Hospice Care and did a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine. In 2004 Dr. Kovacs opened her own practice in the Museum District where she focused on outpatient primary care and its biggest challenge, the increasing rate of obesity and the related medical conditions. She emphasizes life style change and patient accountability over fad diets and medications. She also saw an increasing number of transgender patients for hormone management and was part of the first lecture series at Baylor College of Medicine relating to the LGBT community. Dr. Kovacs joined SJMC Physician Services in July 2015 and opened Houston Heights Primary Care. She has put together a great staff that will make anyone feel comfortable. She continues to see a diverse population of patients and practices individualized medicine. She prides herself on listening to her patients and creating a plan of care that not only meets the standard of care for medical practice but one that the patient understands and is comfortable with.
